Skin needling aka micro needling is a treatment that enhances your skin, using your skin's natural healing process to do so. Needling works by creating a controlled wound healing response in the skin, stimulating the production of new skin cells & collagen to help your reach your skin goals.

Why should I have skin needling?
Skin needling is a very versatile treatment and can help with concerns such as aging, acne scarring, pigmentation, redness, open pores, textured skin, redness & congestion.

When we treat your skin with needling, the depths of the treatment are adjusted, meaning that not all of these concerns are addressed at the same time. This is because the cause of these concerns lie within different areas of  the skin.
As an example, if we are targeting ageing or acne scarring we will be working in the dermis (a deeper layer of the skin where your collagen and elastin are found). Whereas, if we are treating pigmentation or congestion, we are working in the epidermis (the upper layer of your skin where your skin & pigment producing cells are found).

How many sessions do I need?
For most concerns 6 consecutive sessions will be needed to achieve the best results. For acne scarring, usually 8-10 treatments are required.

How often should I have micro needling?
This depends on  the concern we are treating, if we are treating in the upper layers of the skin e.g. pigmentation or congestion then usually we aim for 4 weeks in between treatments.
For deeper concerns such as aging or acne scarring, these are usually spaced about between 6-8 weeks.

Treatment times between treatments can vary slightly from person to person as we take your skin health & age into consideration as these impact how long it takes your skin to go through the full wound healing process.

How do I maintain my skin once I am finished my sessions?
To maintain your results, a skin needling treatment is recommended every 3-4 months.

Does skin needling hurt?
It can feel a little bit uncomfortable. Most people describe the sensation as scratchy, with the worst spots being the forhead, nose and under eyes. As the machine works so quickly, you feel a vibration from the machine, you don't feel a needle type sensation at all.

Do you apply numbing cream?
No we don't. This is because it can effect how accurate the treatment is. To ensure we are treating your concern correctly, we need to know what layer of the skin we are working in. As everybody's skin is different, the way we know we are in the right level is by watching the skin's response. Using numbing cream constricts the blood vessels, which stops the skin from showing an accurate response. Some people like to take a panadol before the treatment as an alternative. Please avoid using ibuprofen before your treatment as this can thin the blood.

Is there anything I need to do before my treatment?
Preparing your skin before your treatment will help you achieve the best results possible. You should start prepping your skin four weeks prior to your treatment. This includes cleansing & moisturising morning and night - this will get you in the routine of looking after your skin if you are not already. A vitamin C serum & SPF should be applied in the morning every day. These will help to prevent further damage to your current skin cells. Vitamin A (retinol) should be used 3x weekly of a night time. This will help to correct damage & improve the function of your cells. This is important because skin needling works by replicating your base skin cells (stem cells) at a much quicker rate than usual. If these cells are not healthy & optimised, then the treatment is going to stimulate the production of new unhealthy cells. Vitamin A and vitamin C are also needed to produce healthy collagen.
Drinking plenty of water for 2 weeks before & after your treatment is also important for hydrated skin cells.

What happens after my treatment?
Immediately after the treatment your skin will look quite red. This will settle down and the following day the skin usually just has a pink tinge to it. The skin will feel like a mild sunburn.

You will need to avoid exercising or any heat based activities for 24-48 hours.
All skincare for the first 3 days should be gentle & hydrating. This includes a gentle cleanser, hydrating serum, gentle moisturiser & SPF.

It is crucial that you continue using SPF every day following your treatment, as exposure to the sun can easily break down freshly produced collagen and  undo the work we have just done.

Do I buy a package or pay for each treatment seperately?
This is completely up to you. We have skin needling treatment packages that can be purchased which work out cheaper per treatment and also include a free LED session 4-5 days after each session. Treatments can also be paid one at a time as you have them. We do accept afterpay and zip pay in store.
