Rosacea is one of those conditions that tends to fly under the radar until it starts affecting your
confidence. It’s more than just redness in the skin, it’s a chronic inflammatory skin condition
that can feel unpredictable and frustrating.
At Skin Health Central, I see many clients who have been living with undiagnosed rosacea for
years, often thinking it’s acne, sensitive skin, or just their genetics. But there are ways to
manage it effectively and it starts with understanding what’s really going on with your skin.
Rosacea typically shows up as:
• Persistent redness, often across the cheeks, nose, and chin
• Flushing that comes and goes
• Small red bumps or pustules (that may be mistaken for acne)
• Visible capillaries (those red blood vessels you see)
• Sensitive or reactive skin – some people even feel stinging or burning
For some people, rosacea can also affect the eyes (ocular rosacea), causing dryness, irritation,
or a gritty feeling.
If you thought you just inherited it from your mum, this may be true to an extent. While there is a
genetic component to rosacea, it’s usually something within your lifestyle that actually triggers it.
Some of the most common triggers are:
• Heat (weather, showers, or saunas)
• Sun exposure
• Spicy food or alcohol
• Stress and emotional changes
• Certain skincare products or ingredients
• Hormonal shifts (like perimenopause)
Working out your trigger is the fun part. You get to play the investigator here. One way to do this
is by keeping a trigger diary even just for a week or two. This can be a helpful way to start
connecting the dots between your lifestyle and flare-ups.
My approach to treating rosacea:
Like all skin conditions I work with, I always take a holistic, personalised approach. That means
we don’t just look at the skin—we also consider gut health, stress levels, hormones, and overall
inflammation in the body.
Here’s what treatment often includes:
• An initial consultation where we look at when it started, dive into possible triggers and
work through ways to reduce or eliminate these triggers. Sometimes it takes more time
and awareness of your lifestyle to work out your trigger/s. We will also go over skin care
here and ensure you are using gentle products that work with your skin rather than
against it
• Calming & strengthening the skin barrier with anti-inflammatory, fragrance-free
skincare
• Professional treatments like LED light therapy to reduce redness and calm flare-ups
(red or combination of red & blue for papulopustular rosacea)
• Internal support with supplements or naturopath referrals (especially when gut health is
involved)
• Ongoing education & support so you feel confident in managing your skin at home
Living with rosacea can feel isolating, especially when it flares up without warning. But with the
right support, it can be managed and you can absolutely feel confident in your skin again
If you suspect you might have rosacea, or your skin has been acting up and you’re not sure
what’s going on, I’d love to help. Book a skin consultation and we’ll work together on a plan
that’s tailored to you.
Explore the full list of treatments, including my signature Skin Journeys for serious skin transformation. For all new clients, I recommend the NEW CLIENT FACIAL which includes a full consultation and a customised 1 hour facial. During the consultation, I will take the time to discuss your skin goals, the history of your skin and make a plan to achieve the goals you are after. Are you ready to feel amazing?
