This may seem controversial, but no I do not recommend skin needling & LED treatments together in most cases.
Why?
Because when we perform a needling treatment on the skin this creates an inflammatory response, and as weird as it sounds, we actually want this inflammation to hang around in the skin. This is because the inflammation is going to create the results we want to achieve. The inflammation brings extra blood flow to the area, and causes the body to release specific growth factors to help correct the concerns we are working on.
Having said this, LED is a really useful tool to help prepare the skin before skin needling or to have in between sessions. Think of LED similar to a battery charger, it essentially ‘charges’ up your cells, energising them so that they are able to function more efficiently. Doing a few of these treatments before we start skin needling puts your skin in a more energised state to be able to heal the skin better.
I also recommend to prep the skin with some work at home to maximise the results. Ideally the following should be done over the 4 weeks leading up to your appointment:
- Use of SPF diligently every day to protect further damage to the skin
- Use of vitamin C serum to protect the skin from environmental damage through the use of antioxidants
- Regular use of vitamin A serum (retinol) to repair past damage
- Drink 2 litres of water daily (2 weeks before and after needling)
Following these steps will mean that your skins stem cells are in a healthier state, meaning that the new cells produced will be healthier instead of ‘copying’ damaged cells!
Vitamin A & C are also needed to produce collagen, so if you are targeting ageing or scarring these are also going to better your results
If you haven’t worked it out yet, I am super passionate about skin needling as it can treat many different concerns with great results.
If you’ve never tried it before and are feeling nervous, I recommend having a chat with me to find out more. I promise it’s not as bad as it sounds!
