This week I’m bringing you something slight different than normal. I’ll be sharing insight into what I have been doing for my own skin to work on improving hormonal breakouts.
It’s no secret that I am prone to acne myself, so here is what I have been doing lately as my skin has had a flare up along my jawline.
To start with I’ve been prioritising liver support. I’ve been taking the pill for years, which is a constant load of synthetic hormones on my liver.
To support my liver I’ve been drinking warm lemon water in the morning, switched my usual tea over to a dandelion root tea and have been using castor oil on my skin over the liver are and placing a heat pack over the top to help with absorption.
I’ve also been focusing on supporting my lymphatic system to help clear waste. I’ve been going for a gentle walk most mornings (with my mug of lemon water) and dry body brushing most days too.
I’ve also been supporting my gut to eliminate excess hormones by fueling my body with plenty of fibre. The easiest way I’ve found has been through eating lots of legumes (I now have a dense bean salad obsession, I’d highly recommend looking some recipes up!) and eating a handful of berries each day.
Something else that I know plays a huge role in acne is blood sugar regulation, so I’ve been making some adjustments to my diet to make sure I’m getting enough protein, particularly with breakfast, but also alongside snacks and other meals.
And of course, to support all of this I’m making sure I’m getting plenty of water in – at least 2 litres daily!
In the next blog I’ll be sharing some of my favourite meals & snacks so keep an eye out for that one.
